National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences
The National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) is a premier international agency for accreditation and approval of education programs in the clinical laboratory sciences and related health care professions. NAACLS provides leadership in fostering innovative educational approaches and actively supports cooperative efforts with other agencies.
The services provided by NAACLS include program accreditation, program approval, consultation, and continuing education. NAACLS provides these services for educational programs, students, employers, and health care consumers. In order for a Histotechnician or Histotechnologist to become certified, they must attend and pass a NAACLS approved Histotechnology program.
The American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)
The American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) is the world’s largest professional membership organization for pathologists and laboratory professionals. The ASCP Board of Certification helps Histotechnicians and Histotechnologists acquire and maintain certification once they complete a NAACLS accredited program. This organization offers excellence in education, certification and advocacy on behalf of patients, pathologists and laboratory professionals across the globe. Currently, there are more than 100,000 members. The ASCP provides educational resources and professional development tools including cutting-edge publications, continuing medical education, professional certification, networking opportunities, and representation in Washington about the issues you care about most.
National Society for Histotechnology (NSH)
This is a professional association for individuals in the histology profession. This organization is a valuable resource for topics such as certification, schooling, formatting CV’s as well as job postings.
