Molecular biology of amyloid-forming proteins with a focus on the acute phase reactant, serum amyloid A (SAA). Research activities include characterization of the human SAA gene family using a variety of approaches-- gene cloning, localization, mapping sequencing, and in-vitro expression. Other ongoing studies are aimed at understanding the metabolism of SAA in humans and in the mouse model. The interaction of SAA with HDL, catabolic pathways of SAA, and metabolic mechanisms involved in amyloidogenesis are subjects of current investigation.
