Our current research is in several areas of applied clinical microbiology; including rapid detection of septicemia; diagnosis of sexually transmitted diseases (C. trachomatis, N. gonorrhoeae, T. vaginalis, and others) using amplified nucleic acid probes. Our newest project is a characterization of bacteria using Denaturing High Performance Liquid Chromatography (DHPLC). We are using this new technology to characterize bacterial isolates and to identify DNA types of Human papillomavarius. Our laboratory is contracted on a regular basis to conduct feasibility studies and clinical trails for DNA probes, molecular amplification methods, and blood culture automation.
